Buying a Home is Like Going to a Really Nice Restaurant

When you go to a really nice restaurant it can be difficult to make good decisions when it’s time to order. First of all, it’s easy to be swayed by presentation. You see the photos on the menu of the entrees and they look so artfully prepared that they make you drool.

You’d like to get a nutritious meal that’s good for you, but sometimes the nutritious stuff costs more (ironically) or, more likely, it requires some self-discipline on your part to deny yourself something you really want.

It’s the same thing when shopping for a home. It’s easy to be swayed by a decorated model or a home that has been staged really well. You may overlook the fact that it’s a really small room because the furniture is also small and sparse.

You may also think you have to have the crown molding and the in-ground pool because you’ve always wanted both, when you really need to be focusing on the location and square footage.

If you are not working with a Realtor® (and you probably should because the seller is paying for their services whether you use them or not), at least take a friend shopping with you who will not hesitate to tell you like it is. This should be the same person who will point out that you do not need the Quattro Fromagio pasta and should get a chef’s salad instead. That’s the kind of guidance you need!

  1. Buying foreclosed homes on sale presents an opportunity like few other for locating huge savings using a wide array of housing. In many cases, informed buyers might make investments any where from 30 to 60% below the market valuation on a specific property. This could certainly lead not only to immediate savings, but also to the greater possibility of profit with a long or short-term investment.
